I'm going to tell you to watch for leadership that cares about you. "You mean politics is going to change?" It already has. It's beginning. Watch for it. You're going to see a total phase-out of old energy dictatorships eventually. The potential is that you're going to see that before 2013.

They're going to fall over, you know, because the energy of the population will not sustain an old energy leader ..."

Indonesia's Jasa Marga seeks loan for toll projects

Wed Jan 9, 2008 2:56am EST

JAKARTA, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Indonesian toll road firm PT Jasa Marga Tbk JSMR.JK is seeking more than 11 trillion rupiah ($1.16 billion) in loans to finance its toll road projects over the next few years, its president director said on Wednesday.

Jasa Marga's president director, Frans Sunito, told Reuters the company was aiming to finalise deals with domestic lenders in the second half of this year.

"From a total 16 trillion rupiah that we need, we have set aside 4.8 trillion rupiah while the rest will come from loans and we will seek financing from domestic banks," Sunito said over the telephone.

He had said earlier the company prefers bank loans as it can tailor the disbursement schedule according to the progress of projects compared to bonds where the money is received all at once.

Jasa Marga controls around 496 km (310 miles) of toll roads in the country, or around 75 percent of the total length of the toll road in the world's fourth most populous nation.

The government owns 70 percent of the company's stake, after an IPO last November that raised 3.5 trillion rupiah. Part of the proceeds will be used to develop new toll roads.

Southeast Asia's largest economy is investing heavilly in a number of infrastructure projects such as toll roads, rails, airports and seaports in its effort to boost the growth further.

The government is developing a 1,000-km (625-mile) toll road on its main Java island and preparing to tender 350 km outside Java.

Jasa Marga plans to immediately start the construction of three toll road sections in the country's main Java island, where more than half of the population of the world's fourth most populous nation lives.

It has also won the tender for two toll road sections on the outskirts of Jakarta to help ease chronic traffic condition in the capital.

Sunito said earlier this month that the company is expecting revenue to rise 20 percent rise this year to 3.18 trillion rupiah on the back of higher earnings from new toll road sections opened last year. (Writing by Harry Suhartono, editing by Sugita Katyal) ($1 = 9,446 rupiah)
