Marty, Hillary launch joint commission

New York (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton launched the US-Indonesia Joint Commission here on Thursday.

Led by the two foreign ministers, the commission would serve as a means of both nations in strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Marty and Clinton launched the Joint Commission after they had met at the office of US State Department.

The US-Indonesia Joint Commission was set up as part of both countries` commitment to increasing bilateral cooperation in the face of various challenges in the 21st century.

It was part of the two states` comprehensive partnership programs designed to reinforce bilateral cooperation in various fields to advance peace, stability and economic prosperity in Indonesia, the United States, the region and the world.

The establishment of the commission will be followed by the launching of a US-Indonesia Partnership Plan of Actions in the fields of politics, security, economy, science and technology.

Both foreign ministers emphasized that relations and friendship of Indonesia and the United States would be based on shared values such as tolerance, democracy, respect to human rights, diversity and and common efforts to advance economy.

In its implementation, the Action Plans of the US-Indonesia Joint Commission will be carried by working groups which would carry out strategic coordination, policy initiatives and decide scale priorities in various fields.
