Jakarta Police to receive Rp 100b for new building

The city police will receive Rp 100 billion (US$10.1 million) from the state budget to resume construction of its new headquarters, an official says.

“This is a multi-year project that is not one of our priority programs. We still have more important things to finance,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said Wednesday.

Boy said the funds were expected to be disbursed by April at the latest. As of 2009, the police had spent Rp 110 billion from a total of Rp 340 billion allocated for the project.

The 24-story building, the construction of which began in 2004, is expected to open in 2011 and will be the office of the city police chief and other high-ranking officers.

Boy said the current main building, built in the 1960s, would be maintained because of to its historic value.

The public division building, situated next to the construction site, will likely be demolished turned into a parking lot or a green area, he said.
