E. Jakarta plans revitalization project

JAKARTA: The East Jakarta municipal administration is planning to redesign the Jatinegara Golden Triangle to boost economic growth in the commercial district.

The Jatinegara Golden Triangle spans from Jl. Matraman Raya to Jl. Jatinegara Barat and Jl. Jatinegara Timur. Several traditional markets are located in the area, as well as major train and bus stations.

East Jakarta Mayor Koesnan Abdul Halim said the administration would commence revitalization efforts in the area in 2010.

"Our target is to modernize this area so people will feel comfortable. The area is currently crowded with public transportation vehicles and street vendors. We have to relocate the street vendors to a special area."

He said the municipal administration was yet to calculate the anticipated costs associated with the project, which would be carried out by contractors. --JP
