Bali to get 400 MW thermal power plant soon

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - State electricity firm PT PLN will soon embark on the construction of a thermal power plant with a combined capacity of 400 MW near Celukan Bawang port in Buleleng district, Bali, aimed at anticipating power shortages on the resort island, an official said.

The construction of the power plant is scheduled for completion in two years` time, PT PLN General Manager for Bali Distribution Area Ngurah Adnyana said here Thursday.

The power plant is expected to generate 130 MW of electricity in the first phase of operation, he said.

"With the addition of 400 MW, power supplies in Bali in the next 5 to 10 years will be very safe even though power demand will grow by more than 7 percent per year," he said.

Nearly 200 MW of Bali`s power supplies come from Java, while the existing power plants have a combined capacity of 330 MW.
