Canadian Red Cross to build 3,000 more houses for tsunami victims

BANDA ACEH, Aceh Province (Antara): The Canadian Red Cross Thursday announced its plan to build 3,000 more houses for tsunami victims in Banda Aceh and Aceh Jaya, Aceh province.

Spokesperson of the Red Cross delegation Gita Modgil said in Banda Aceh that the organization had signed three contract agreements for the constructions of the houses.

"We announce that we will sign three contract agreements to construct some 3,000 strong houses in Banda Aceh and Aceh Jaya," Modgil was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Two developers, which will develop the houses, are state-owned PT Wijaya Karya and PT Totalindo Eka Persada, which would start their work in April.

Modgil said some 9,200 victims of tsunami have occupied houses build by Canadian Red Cross and the total houses to be built by the Red Cross would reach 33,000.
