“ … Here is another one. A change in what Human nature will allow for government. "Careful, Kryon, don't talk about politics. You'll get in trouble." I won't get in trouble. I'm going to tell you to watch for leadership that cares about you. "You mean politics is going to change?" It already has. It's beginning. Watch for it. You're going to see a total phase-out of old energy dictatorships eventually. The potential is that you're going to see that before 2013.

They're going to fall over, you know, because the energy of the population will not sustain an old energy leader ..."

Works Ministry steams ahead

The Jakarta Post

In line with the government's plans to speed up infrastructure projects, the Public Works Ministry has begun work on 65 percent of projects it plans to carry out this year.

The ministry is now carrying out several projects worth Rp 23.5 trillion (about US$2.5 billion), or 65 percent of the total full-year projects worth Rp 36.1 trillion, said Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto on Wednesday.

"The projects can be done faster because we managed to complete the biding process for them before end of last year," Djoko said on the sidelines of a seminar organized by the Indonesian Builders Association (Gapensi).

As of the end of December 2007, Djoko went on, tenders had been completed on projects worth Rp 11.5 trillion, on multi-year projects at Rp 6.5 trillion, and the continuation of existing projects at Rp 5.5 trillion.

Gapensi chairman Agus Kartasasmita welcomed the ministry's eagerness in carrying out development projects and hoped that other ministries would also follow suit.

Agus said the association's members would be greatly benefitted by intensified infrastructure projects by the government.

With an improving economy, Agus predicted a boom in construction and development projects this year, with orders estimated to reach Rp 190 trillion.

In the seminar, to further speed up infrastructure projects, Gapensi urged the government to support the industry with a better legal system as well as its enforcement, to create business certainty. -- JP/Agustina Wayansari
