I'm going to tell you to watch for leadership that cares about you. "You mean politics is going to change?" It already has. It's beginning. Watch for it. You're going to see a total phase-out of old energy dictatorships eventually. The potential is that you're going to see that before 2013.

They're going to fall over, you know, because the energy of the population will not sustain an old energy leader ..."

Minister orders twice-weekly drug sweeps in prisons

Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA News) - Law and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta has ordered prison authorities to conduct a drug sweep in every state penitentiary twice a week.

The minister issued the instruction in connection with allegations that drug trafficking in prisons in the country was increasing.

"I will not cover up this fact. But the increase in drug trafficking in prisons is obviously related to the activity of drug dealers outside the penitentiaries," the minister said after opening an ISO 9000:2000 project here on Wednesday.

He said some big-time drug dealers were indeed serving sentences in prisons but their networks were outside the jails. Therefore, efforts needed to be made to stop the activities of those networks.

The minister said supervision over conditions in prisons should also be stepped up by conducting a drug sweep in prisons twice a week.

Besides, he said, many prison officers were also still lacking in knowledge about drugs. They needed to increase their knowledge about drugs so that they could not be easily deceived.

The minister also hoped that penitentiaries would install closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitors in prison corners to keep the inmates` activities under close watch.

"I once proposed that detector devices be installed at prison gates but it seems the idea has not been implemented because of financial constraints," he said.
