Astra Group increases educational grants

JAKARTA: Indonesia’s largest automobile group, PT Astra International, and its subsidiaries significantly increased their educational grants to more than 2,700 primary school children and dozens of teachers and donated 50 personal computers and 54 motorcycles to primary, secondary and high schools.

The grants were distributed to commemorate National Education Day, which falls every May 2, at a ceremony here Tuesday that also named one of the five educational foundations run by Astra and its subsidiaries after Astra’s late chief executive officer Michael D. Ruslim.

“The commissioning of Yayasan Pendidikan Astra Michael D. Ruslim was done in honor of the former Astra CEO, who had a strong commitment to the development of education,” Astra’s chief of corporate communications Arief Istanto said. — JP
