RI, Netherlands to seal draft on strategic partnership

The Jakarta Post | Sat, 01/10/2009 8:19 PM

Indonesia and the Netherlands will hold a bilateral meeting next week to officially agree on working towards forging a strategic partnership.

The meeting will be held in Jakarta during the visit of Netherlands' Foreign Minister Maxim Verhagen from Jan. 13 until Jan. 17.

The Indonesian Foreign ministry said in a statement Saturday that Verhagen and Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda would sign the final draft for the strategic partnership on Jan. 14.

The partnership, which will be signed into effect by the head of states some time in the near future, is expected to open more opportunity for cooperation, in various sectors, for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

The bilateral meeting will also discuss cooperation in law, climate change, ASEAN-EU relations and other global issues, particularly the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

During his visit to Indonesia, Verhagen is scheduled to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Human Rights and Law Minister Andi Matalata before and will travel to Yogyakarta to meet the king of the Ngayogyakarta sultanate on Jan. 15. (and)
