Petredec wins Pertamina LPG tender

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 12/15/2008 9:32 PM

State-owned oil firm PT Pertamina has declared Bermuda-based Petredec Limited oil company as winner of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tender for a 10-year contract to supply Indonesia up to 2019.

Pertamina distribution deputy director Hanung Budya said on Monday that Petredec had beaten 15 competitors in the tender, including Petronas and Shell.

"Petredec will commence supplying LPG in January next year. In the first year it will provide 800,000 tons of LPG, and plans to supply up to 1.5 million tons in following years," Hanung told Antara news agency.

Hanung said Pertamina was importing 140,000 tons of LPG this month, and was planning to increase imports to meet increasing national demand.

In 2009, the government predicts, Indonesia's LPG consumption will reach between 3 and 3.3 million tons, up from 2.2 million tons in 2008. (ewd)
