Radio Nederlands

Jakarta (10 December) - Dutch Development Cooperation Minister Bert Koenders says the Netherlands hopes to expand its level of assistance to Indonesia. Mr Koenders, who is currently visiting Jakarta, made the statement during a meeting with Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla.

The Dutch minister said the Netherlands is particularly interested in increasing the number of reconstruction projects in Aceh, which suffered from the tsunami of December 2005 and is also recuperating from years of conflict between government forces and the Free Aceh Movement. Mr Koenders also spoke about the need to fight corruption in Indonesia.

The development cooperation minister also announced that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is considering paying a visit to the Netherlands in 2008 in order to sign a cooperation pact with Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
