South Korea to send investment mission to Indonesia

ASEAN-Korea Centre, an international organization established to promote economic and socio-cultural cooperation between ASEAN countries and Korea, is dispatching an investment mission to Indonesia from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, 2010 in search for investment opportunities in sectors of ship parts, ship design and construction machinery.

In its press statement sent on Friday, the ASEAN-Korea centre said that the mission would comprise of 20 Korean company representatives and related experts and they would visit various government agencies and local companies in the ship parts, ship design and construction machinery industry sectors and have business meetings with local business.

In Jakarta, the mission members will be informed of the latest investment policies by Ministry of Industry, Indonesia during “Business Forum on Investment Opportunities in the Field of Ship Building Industry and Construction Machinery”, which will be held in cooperation with Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

On Oct. 6 the mission members will be briefed on the latest investment policies and opportunities by Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority. Also, they will have business meetings with Indonesian and Singaporean businessmen which are expected to provide an opportunity to better understand local markets and obtain information on investment potentials. In addition, there will be visits to the local companies of ship parts, ship design and construction machinery industries in Batam.

Currently, South Korean has invested in more than 1,000 projects covering various businesses, including electronics, food, construction, chemicals, and airline services. South Korean companies realized investment in Indonesia reached a total of $624.6 million in 2009.
