PGBI expands output capacity

JAKARTA (Jakarta Post): Japan-based battery maker PT Panasonic Gobel Battery Indonesia commenced operations Monday at its expanded lithium coin battery plant in the Cibitung industrial estate in Bekasi, West Java.

Managing director Asmuni A.S. told The Jakarta Post that the US$14 million expansion of the plant from 2,500 square meters to 10,000 square meters would enable the company to increase production from 40 million to 50 million batteries per month.

"All of the plant's production is exported," said Asmuni, adding that its products were sent to America, and a number of countries in Europe and elsewhere in Asia.

According to Asmuni, the company planned to invest some US$4 million to US$5 million on additional machinery in 2008 to increase production to 65 million batteries by 2010. (nkn)
