Japanese
electronics giant Sharp has sealed a deal at the ASEAN Summit in Bali to invest
US$ 1 billion in solar cell technology in Indonesia, according to a top
government official.
“Sharp has
assessed that our country has been blessed with sunlight throughout the years.
This has a great potential that is waiting to be explored,” Energy and Mineral
Resources Minister Jero Wacik said on Saturday as quoted by
tempointeraktif.com.
Sharp
currently has a pilot project in Thailand with 160 hectares of solar cell panels
that generate up to 73 megawatts for 23 US cents per kilowatt-hour.
“We’ll
discuss the details in upcoming meetings,” he said.
