RI, Aussie special forces to hold joint exercise

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Special Force (Kopassus) and Australia`s elite unit SAS will hold a joint anti-terrorism exercise in Bali soon.

The upcoming joint exercise had been planned for some time, Lt Col I Kadek A Atmawijaya, head of the Udayana/Military Regional Command IX`s information section, said here Friday.

The exercise would involve members of the Counter Terror Unit of the Kopassus Headquarters in Cijantung, East Jakarta, and Australian SAS personnel.

Key officers of the two special forces arrived in Denpasar a few days ago, and are currently conducting field coordination and command line equation.The anti-terror exercise would take place at several locations in Bali.

"We still do not know the exact scenarios but it will start at Nitimandala Renon square, Denpasar, and end at Ngurah Rai international airport," he said.

Bali is famous as a world-class tourist destination, he said. "It`s our common responsibility to safeguard it. In this case we will carry out our tasks in accordance with our functions, and we are currently in partnership with the Australian Army," he said.
