UGM tops list of RI best universities

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 02/12/2010 12:04 PM

Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta ranks eighth in Southeast Asia according to the latest survey conducted by Webometrics on 100 universities across the region.

Topping the list is the National University of Singapore, followed by Kasetsart University of Thailand and Prince of Songkla University in Thailand.

There are 17 Indonesian universities that make it into the top 100, with UGM leading the pack, followed by the Bandung Institute of Technology which ranks 10th and University of Indonesia which is 17th.

Spokesman for UGM Suryo Baskoro said Friday the university welcomed the results of the latest poll, although he acknowledged Webometrics only partially assessed the universities surveyed.

Affiliated to the Spanish National Research Council, Webometrics updates the ranking every six months.
