Telkom Offers Employees Early Retirement

Monday, 16 March, 2009 | 23:06 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia is allocating around Rp750 billion to carry out an early retirement plan for 1.156 of its employees this year. The fund, amounting to US$ 2.5 billion, comes out of Telkom’s 2009 capital expenditure. Telkom spokesperson, Eddy Kurnia, said the company is offering the plan to reduce the number of its employees, a program it wants to do in phases. “This is to allow the company to move more dynamically in this time of tight competition,” he said, through a press release.

The reason for the early retirement offer, Eddy said, was because Telkom must be operationally efficient and effective to allow for competitiveness and to give its employees the opportunity to develop their potentials outside the company. The program will be implemented until 2011, adjusting it to the company’s condition. The early retirement plan will be offered until the company reaches an ideal number of employees. “Basically, the early retirement plan is offered on a voluntary basis,” he said.
