LPKJN to Train Unemployed

Tuesday, 10 March, 2009 | 13:20 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The National Construction Services Development Institute (LPJKN) will train unemployed people from non-construction sectors for infrastructure projects.

LPJKN head Malkan Amin said the training sessions will be held for two weeks each.

However, the recruitment mechanism for the sessions is not yet clear.

Malkan explained that there already was an agreement between LPJKN and the Public Works Department as well as the Manpower and Transmigration Department for this.

He went on to say that infrastructure projects could provide many job opportunities.

LPJKN is being asked to publicize the information and coordinate the training.

However, Malkan acknowledged that participants joining the training sessions will not have any income for two weeks and this could be a problem.

“We will pay for the training expenses, but who will bear their family costs for two weeks?” he asked.

Sumaryanto Widayatin, Head of the Construction and Human Resources Empowerment Board at the Public Works Department, has agreed with the idea of providing training.

He said that the construction sector provided the most job opportunities.

“To survive the crisis, we should prioritize this sector,” he said Sumaryanto.
