RI, Dutch business makers encouraged to increase partnership

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven has encouraged Indonesian and Dutch business makers to step up business contacts and partnership among them, although global economic development was at its slow pace. 

"We want to improve Dutch and Indonesian bilateral relations and therefore the business makers of the two countries should as well step up their business contacts and partnership," van der Hoeven said at a banquet here on Tuesday evening. 

Present at the banquet, hosted by the two countries businessmen, were among others Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, State Minister for State Enterprises Sofyan Djalil, Dutch ambassador to Indonesia Nokolaos van Dam, and Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands J E Habibie. 

On the occasion, the Dutch economic affairs minister said the businessmen of the two countries should strengthen their business contacts because there were a lot of business opportunities in various sectors that they could develop. 

She said the Netherlands had a lot of investors in Indonesia with a total investment of US$147.2 million from 36 projects in 2007. 

The Dutch investors in Indonesia were investing in various sectors such as dairy product, oil and gas, and mineral including their supporting services. 

Dutch companies such as Shell and Unilever have been operation in Indonesia for a long time. 

The country also has a good reputation at technological sector in Indonesia such as water management, sanitation, agriculture, finance and service, and food products. 

Meanwhile, Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Nikolaos van Dam said the two countries businessmen could complete each other in stepping up business contacts and parnership. 

"The presence of Dutch businessmen in Indonesia will further strengthen economic partnership between the two countries," van Dam said.
