Tangerang lakes to be restored

TANGERANG (Jakarta Post) : The Tangerang administration plans to restore several lakes in the area that have decreased in size due to sedimentation or commercial development projects.

Among lakes to be restored are the Parigi Lake in Pondok Aren and the Kuru and Gintung lakes in Ciputat.

"We will restore these lakes according to their initial function as water catchment areas," said Yilianto, the head of water resources at the regency's public works agency, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com on Thursday.

The central government will finance the revitalization of Parigi lake, while the Banten provincial administration and the Tangerang administration will be responsible for work at the Kuru and Ginting lakes, he said.

Yulianto said most of the lakes in the regency were not being used and had either dried up or been reclaimed for housing projects.

"Most of Kuru Lake in Ciputat Timur has been turned into a housing complex," he said.
