Toyota to import Indonesia-made vehicles for sale in Japan

Nagoya (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Toyota Motor Corp. (TSE:7203) said Wednesday that it will begin importing compact commercial vehicles produced in Indonesia and selling them in Japan.

Production of its fully remodelled Townace/Liteace vans and trucks, to be rolled out in Japan on Feb. 25, will be shifted entirely from domestic output to imports. Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Co. (TSE:7262) will assemble the vehicles in Indonesia and supply them on an OEM basis.

Currently, the only vehicle assembled overseas and sold in Japan under the Toyota brand is the Avensis midsize car, which is produced at its U.K. factory.
