President calls on nation to support toll road construction projects

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on the nation and all related parties to cooperate in making toll road construction projects a success, especially in relation with land clearing.

"For the sake of the public interest, I ask all parties to make toll road construction efforts a success," the President said at a press conference after Public Works Minister Joko Kirmanto explained about the projects at the Public Works Ministry here on Tuesday.

On the occasion, the head of state admitted that land clearance problems were considered a major stumbling block in the construction of toll roads in the country.

Yudhoyono said in relation with road infrastructure development, toll road construction was one of the govermment`s top priorities.

He said the government had decided to contruct a total of 1,119 kilometers of toll road in the country over the next three years (2008-2010).

"Therefore, I call on all related parties to cooperate with each other well in the public interest," Yudhoyono said.

He said decisions on the price of land to be cleared for toll road construction projects should be accountable and transparent so that the land owners would not suffer losses.
