Ogan Ilir builds environmental lab

INDRALAYA, South Sumatra (Jakarta Post) : Local energy and mineral resources ministry office has made plans to build an environmental laboratory to monitor the environmental pollution in the province.

The project would cost some Rp 822 million (US$87,400) allocated under the central government 2008 budget special allocation funds for the province.

The laboratory would be mainly responsible for monitoring river water, air quality and waste-water from factories and households, provincial energy and mineral resources ministry office Achyar Muchtar said here on Tuesday.

He said his team would coordinate with the Environment Ministry to get technical guidance to operate the lab and train its staff.
