Indonesia Becomes Royal Doulton's Production Center

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The world ceramic company Royal Doulton will turn Indonesia into the center of its global production center. Through PT Doulton's subsidiary, the company will build a new factory this February with a capacity of 10 million pieces a year.

“With the new additional factory, production capacity in Indonesia is 22.5 million pieces a year,” said PT Doulton's General Manager, Deny Maskat, yesterday (3/1). The company will building the factory after obtaining the assurance of 720,000 cubic meters per day of gas from PT PGN (State Gas Company).

With construction of the second ceramic factory, which is estimated to be completed in late 2008, all of Doulton's ceramic production in England and Germany will be moved to Indonesia. Doulton originally built a factory in Indonesia in 1995.

The investment for the second ceramic factory building was around US$28 million. In addition to a ceramic factory investment, the company has already finished building the decal printing (ceramic ornaments) factory. The decal printing factory cost US$4.5 million fund.

“The capacity is around 300,000 pieces. We will export 50 percent of production to the other Doulton branches,” said Deny. The decal printing export value was estimated at US$2 million.

The company exported to Europe, America , Australia and Asia markets with 98 percent of total production. The sales throughout 2007 were US$26.5 million, an increase compared to 2006, which was US$16.13 million.
