Mimika builds trade center

TIMIKA, Papua (Jakarta Post): The construction of a trade center and bus station on a 16-hectare plot of land has begun in Mimika.

Acting Mimika regent, Atanasius Allo Rafra, said the trade center would be the biggest in Papua province.

"The development of the trade center and bus station is one of the administration's efforts to turn Mimika into an industrial and service center in Papua," he said.

The administration, therefore, was planning to also expand Pomako Port, develop an airport and procure a number of passenger ships, he said.

The development of infrastructure in the regency is expected to attract investors to Mimika by, for example, establishing timber and seafood processing plants that export most of their products, he said.
