Jasindo, BTN to be privatized through IPOs next year

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State insurance company PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo) and state savings bank BTN are ready to be privatized through initial public offerings (IPOs) next year, an official said.

"The two companies are among seven state enterprises that will be privatized in 2008 through IPOs. The government plans to privatize 16 state enterprises including the seven in the years to come," Deputy for Banking and Financial Services Affairs to the State Enterprises Minister Parikesit Suprapto said here Monday.

PT Krakatau Steel, PT Semen Baturaja, PT Sucofindo, PT Surveyor Indonesia and PT Waskita Karya were five state enterprises that would be privatized next year through IPOs, he said.

Bank BTN would continue with its privatization program in 2008 despite the government`s plan to merge it with other institutions due to its financial problems, Parikesit said.

The nine other state enterprises the government wanted to privatize through strategic sales were PT Djakarta Lloyd, PT Sarinah, PT Industri Sandang, PT Sarana Karya, PT INTI, PT JIEP, PT SIER, PT Rekayasa Industri and PT Bank Bukopin.

State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil said the government had set itself the target of raising Rp1.5 trillion from privatization of state-owned firms.
