Jakarta, Indonesia (AHN) - Indonesia is bidding out in 2008 11 toll road projects to boost the nation's economic growth. The projects, worth $2.5 billion, cover 350 kilometers of infrastructure projects in seven states.
Hisnu Pawenang, head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency, identified the areas of the toll road projects as North Sulawesi, Bali, Riau, South Sumatera, North Sumatera, East Java and West Java.
After the winning bidders are picked late 2008, construction will start at the end of 2009 or early 2010, the Business Times of Malaysia reported.
The road projects aims to boost Indonesia's laggard infrastructure industry and in the process spur economic growth and alleviate poverty. The country had difficulty getting investors in the past due to red tape and corruption.
An earlier AsiaTimes Online report said the Indonesian government plans to build 1,500 kilometers of new toll roads worth $9.2 billion, but it covered until 2009.
