Canada Grants Rp2 Billion To Overcome Terrorism

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Canadian government granted mechanisms for the prevention of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons for terrorism handling. In addition , Canada will give training.

The grant are to be given in the amounts of US$250,000 or equivalent to around Rp2 billion. This was revealed by the Canadian Ambassador John Holmes to Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Agustadi Sasongko, yesterday (14/5).

“This contribution shows the strategic interests owned by Canada in supporting the development of anti-terrorism in Indonesia,” said John.

Similar grants have been given by Canada since 2004. From this cooperation, Canada has sponsored four training sessions of prevention of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons, in Semarang, Surabaya and twice in Jakarta.

According to Agustadi, so far there has not been any indication that terrorism groups in the country use such weapons.
