PLN rebuilds quake-hit school

The jakarta Post

PADANG, West Sumatra: The PLN state power company will rebuild SDN Sumani 6 state elementary school in Solok regency, which was damaged and burnt during the earthquake in West Sumatra, at a cost of Rp 1.02 billion (about US$113,333).

More than 1,500 school buildings were badly or partly damaged during the earthquake in the province in March. The school reconstruction in Solok is part of the promise made by PLN officials during a tour to the location a day after the disaster.

PLN managing director Eddi Widiono said funds for the project would be derived from PLN's Environment Awareness Participation Program and expected to complete in five months. The building will consist of eight classrooms, two teachers rooms and a library, including furnishings and books. -- JP
