Pamulang Square construction halted

The Jakarta Post

TANGERANG: The Tangerang regency administration has halted the construction of a lakeside shopping mall in Pamulang.

"We have told developer PT Indoland Perkasa to call off the project," Mursan Sobari, the head of the development unit at the regency's building and resettlement agency, told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

He said the order was given during a meeting with company executives and the public order agency earlier in the day.

The public order agency has given the developer a month to demolish the structure.

The administration earlier issued an ordinance on lake and river management, which prohibited the construction of any building within 50 meters of a river or lakes.

The new shopping center is only about 30 meters away from Cileduk Lake.

"The developers promised to reevaluate the project," Mursan said.

Representatives of the company who attended the meeting declined to comment to the media. -- JP
