Iranian investor to enter W. Java`s carpet industry

Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - Some Iranian business people were interested to invest their capital in a number of silk carpet companies in West Java in a hope the product would be one of the province`s prime export commodities.

"A number of local silk carpet businesspersons have explored the possibility, and some of them have even established cooperation," Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin)`s West Java chapter, Iwan Dermawan Hanafie, said here Thursday.

In addition to capital investment, the cooperation in the development of silk carpet industry also dealt with the supplies of raw materials and production machines besides helping market the commodity to other countries, Iwan said.

Iran is a noted producer of silk carpet whose quality is already recognized worldwide, while West Java has potential silk carpet companies, he said.

"Besides getting capital assistance and better production machines, West Java`s businesspeople will also get a wider market access to promote and market their products. Those are benefits in the long term," he said.

Several silk carpet companies in West Java are located in Bandung (West Java province`s capital) and Cimahi district.

Iwan was optimistic that the cooperation in the silk carpet industry with Iran would give positive impacts and boost the carpet industry in West Java.

"The cooperation is likely to market West Java`s carpet products to Iran and the Middle East while Iran`s carpet products will be marketed in West Java. In terms of quality, West Java`s carpet products are competitive," he said.
