Govt. invites investors to build wholesale markets in three cities

JAKARTA (Antara): The government is inviting domestic investors to develop wholesale markets in Makassar, Surabaya and Jakarta, a Trade Ministry official said.

The wholesale markets would be built near seaports in the country's three major cities to facilitate interinsular trade, the ministry's director general of domestic trade, Ardiansyah Parman, said on Friday.

At present Jakarta has a vegetable and fruit wholesale market.

But Ardiansyah said the capital city needed another wholesale market specializing in rice.
Based on the results of a study, the frequency of rice shipped via the Sukarno-Hatta port (Makassar), Tanjung Priok port (Jakarta) and Tanjung Perak (Surabaya) for interinsular trade was high, he said.
