Indonesia's Bakrie Bros go-ahead for US$1.26 bln gas pipeline project

Jakarta (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - The government has given the go-ahead to PT Bakrie & Brothers (BB) to build a 1,200 kilometer gas pipeline from East Kalimantan to Central Java, but said it needs to be convinced that the project is feasible.

BB has won the tender to build the US$1.26 billion submarine pipeline but analysts and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have cast doubt about the feasibility of the project.

Analysts have said gas reserves in East Kalimantan are barely enough to feed its industries such as Bontang liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and Pupuk Kaltim's urea fertilizer plant.
